Clay Collins

Acoustic Hymns, Vol. I  started out as a fun project meant for my own enjoyment until it began to have a life of its own. Arrangements were built in the studio one instrument at a time--with lots of pleasant surprises along the way.!  The positive response I got as I played the recordings for friends and family led to this official release.

Written by Joachim Neander. Titled, “Lobe den Herren, den machtigen, knog der Ehren” in the original German.                              Sung to an old English folk tune.

Holy, Holy, Holy                                                                                                                                                                                                   1826. Written by the Anglican bishop Reginald Heber. First published posthumously.                                                                                    Sung to “Nicea”, by John Bacchus Dykes.

Christ the Lord Is Risen Today                                                                                                                                                                          1739.  Written by Charles Wesley.  Initially titled “Hymn for Easter Day”.

Be Thou My Vision                                                                                                                                                                        Sixth Century. Text from Early Middle Irish “Rop to mo Baile”, attributed to Saint Dalla Forgaill. Translated to English in 1905 by Mary  Elizabeth Byrne.  Set into verse in 1912 by Eleanor Hull. Sung to the Irish Folk tune “Slane”.

O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus                                                                                                                                                        1875. Written by the London merchant Samuel Trevor Francis. Sung to “Ebenezer”, also known as “Ton-y-Botel”, a famous Welsh hymn  written by Thomas John Williams, extracted from the second movement of his anthem “Goleu Yn Y Glyn” (Light in the Valley).
